In the current climate where language, about children, within education includes concepts like ‘zero tolerance’, isolation and off rolling, we could be forgiven for thinking that we were operating in a different century!
Passionately committed to relational approaches to ‘behaviour’ (as in ‘all behaviour is communication’), I wanted to give educators and parents the opportunity to see how this works in practice.
I was lucky enough to speak to Rachel Tomlinson, the Head Teacher from Barrowford Primary in East Lancashire, not just once, but twice. Find out how her school thrives without a Behaviour Policy and has done for 9 years!
PART ONE
PART TWO
What a breath of fresh air, at last someone is talking sense and has joined the dots to mental health being a part of the whole. Really inspiring.
So glad it resonates…
Parts 1 and 2 should be shown to every student currently completing ITT! If discussions like this can be combined with other learning opportunities through the work of, for example, Maslow, Bowlby, Ainsworth, Dan Hughes and Louise Bomber our schools will be safer, calmer environments in which pupils can learn. An understanding of childhood trauma, ACE’s and the importance of positive and sensitive relationships with pupils is the key to them being able to both live and learn! Every school needs to be attachment aware and have an attachment lead.
